For gyms, pilates and yoga studios, and personal trainers

People want to see the place, and try it, before they sign up.

I run two gyms here in Sydney, so I know how people decide whether to walk in. My job is making your space, your timetable and your trial easy to find on your website and Google listing.

What your members judge you on

In Google reviews of gyms and studios, people write about the place itself more than anything else. Here are the three things that lead.

The place itself

People write about the space, the equipment and how clean it is. That's in more than half the good Google reviews and close to half the bad ones, so real photos of your space come first.

What it costs, and how to leave

In ProductReview's gym reviews, mostly of the big chains, most of the bad ones mention price, and over half are about contracts, billing or cancelling. So I check your site says plainly what it costs and how to cancel.

A way to try it, and hours that are right

Plenty of studios offer a trial or an intro pack, and Fair Trading suggests one too. Early, late and weekend hours come up in good gym reviews, so they need to be right on Google.

What the audit checks for you

For a gym or studio, these come first in the audit:

  • Real photos of your space, equipment and classes on Google, your website and Instagram.
  • Whether "Try a class" or a trial is the first thing a stranger can tap.
  • Whether your timetable and hours are right, early mornings and weekends included.
  • Whether your site says what a membership or class pack costs, how long it runs, and how to cancel.
  • Whether people can book a class from your Google listing and from your site.

The rules for your trade, done right

  • Trials and cooling-off. Fair Trading NSW suggests gyms offer a cooling-off period or a trial with no obligation, so people can try before they sign up. It's advice rather than law, and I check whether yours is easy to find.
  • The full price. If you advertise a price, the total has to be just as clear, so a joining fee can't sit in the small print. That's Fair Trading's single price rule.
  • Member reviews. Reviews and member stories on your site have to be real. Making one up, or changing what someone said, is against the law, so I only show real ones with a name.

What reviews of local gyms say

In Google reviews of local gyms and pilates studios, not the big chains, the same three things kept coming up: the equipment, how clean it is and how friendly the staff are.

Reviews of pilates studios added two more: the instructor, and whether you can get a spot in a popular class.

A sample audit

I haven't got a gym or studio client to show you yet, so here's a sample audit for a made-up pilates studio. It's an example, not a result, and yours would be about your place only.

What it costs

Setup is $400 to $800, then $200 a month.

Your audit shows which one fits, and I'll tell you why.

  • Tune-up, $400. Your website is fine, but your Google listing isn't.
  • Fix-up, $500. Your website works, but needs real work.
  • Full build, $800. You have no website, or one you can't control.

All three include your Google listing fully filled in, more reviews with every one answered, and your details matching everywhere you're listed.

The $200 a month starts a month after setup. It covers the audit each month, your website kept up to date, a new post from photos you send me, small changes (up to about an hour), and a short report with a 10-minute call if you'd like one.

  • No lock-in and no fee to cancel, so you can stop any month.
  • You own everything, and there's no GST to add.
  • You and a friend each get a free month. A friend sent you? Tell me who.

Questions gym owners ask me

You run gyms. Why would you help another one?

Because I know the work from running my own gyms, so I know what members look for. I don't take on gyms within 20 km of mine.

Most of our members come through friends and Instagram.

Keep it that way. The audit checks that when a friend sends someone your way, they can see the space, find the timetable and book a trial without messaging you first.

We'd rather talk prices through in person.

That's your call. The audit will point it out if prices are missing, and you decide what to do with it. If you show a price, show the full amount someone pays for that membership, including any joining fee.

We sell class packs, not memberships.

That's fine. The audit checks your class prices and packs instead, and whether a first-timer can see what to buy.

Text me your gym or studio's name for a free audit, and I'll tell you what I'd fix first.
