For builders, kitchens and bathrooms, landscapers, painters, roofers, pools and other trades that quote on bigger jobs

People want to see your finished work before they ask you to quote.

A new kitchen or backyard is a big spend, so people compare a few businesses first. I make sure your website and Google listing show your best jobs, your reviews and an easy way to ask for a quote.

What your customers judge you on

Builders, kitchen companies, roofers and painters get judged on the finished job first. Here's the order, going by their customers' reviews.

Your finished work, shown

On ServiceSeeking, quality of the finished work is the top thing customers mention for roofers, painters, builders and kitchens. Real photos of jobs you've done are the nearest thing to seeing it in person.

Your reviews, and your replies

Even after a mate recommends you, Houzz says over 60% of homeowners still check online. Your reviews are what they find, so I check how recent they are and whether you've replied.

Your licence, and what happens after they ask

Jobs get lost when nobody rings back, measures up or sends the quote. People want to know what happens next and when, and to see a licence number where your work needs one.

What the audit checks for you

For a business that quotes on bigger jobs, these lead the audit:

  • Whether your website shows finished jobs with real photos, and says what each job was and where.
  • Whether your Google listing has recent photos of your work, not just your logo.
  • Whether asking for a quote is easy from the first screen, and says what happens next and when.
  • Your reviews: how many, how recent, and whether each one has a reply.
  • Your licence name and number on the site, where your work needs one.
  • The areas you really work in, on your site and on Google.
  • Hours: showroom hours if you have a showroom, otherwise the times someone answers.

The rules for your trade, done right

  • Your licence number, with the right category. Fair Trading says your name and licence number, with the right category of work, must be shown in all advertising. I check they're on your website and match your licence.
  • The name you trade under. If you advertise under a business name, Fair Trading says it has to be one registered to the licence holder. I check the name on your site and your Google listing lines up.
  • Your business phone. Fair Trading lists your business phone number as part of every ad too, so I check it sits with your licence details.
  • If your work doesn't need a licence, like inside-only painting or carpet, the audit won't mark you down for having none.

A landscaper on the Northern Beaches

External Living is Steve's landscaping business on the Northern Beaches. When I started, there was no website, and his Google listing had no photos and not one review.

What I did for him:

  • His first website, built around photos of his own jobs, so people see the work before they ring.
  • A quote form where customers can send photos of the job, so Steve knows what it is before he calls back.
  • His Google listing filled in with his services, photos and hours, all in his own name.

Steve says 5 people rang him in October after finding him on Google. He's not in the top three on Google Maps yet. Getting there takes more reviews, and time.

What it costs

Setup is $400 to $800, then $200 a month.

Your audit shows which one fits, and I'll tell you why.

  • Tune-up, $400. Your website is fine, but your Google listing isn't.
  • Fix-up, $500. Your website works, but needs real work.
  • Full build, $800. You have no website, or one you can't control.

All three include your Google listing fully filled in, more reviews with every one answered, and your details matching everywhere you're listed.

The $200 a month starts a month after setup. It covers the audit each month, your website kept up to date, a new post from photos you send me, small changes (up to about an hour), and a short report with a 10-minute call if you'd like one.

  • No lock-in and no fee to cancel, so you can stop any month.
  • You own everything, and there's no GST to add.
  • You and a friend each get a free month. A friend sent you? Tell me who.

Questions builders and renovators ask me

Most of my work comes from referrals. Why bother?

The audit shows you what a referred customer finds when they check you out: your photos, your reviews and how easy you are to get a quote from.

I don't have good photos of my jobs.

Phone photos are fine. Send me what you've got from your last few jobs, before and after if you have them. I only use your real photos.

Will a better website just bring me tyre-kickers?

On Steve's site, people send photos with their enquiry, so he can see the job first.

My work is seasonal. Do I keep paying through the quiet months?

It's month to month, so you're never stuck. You can also pause for up to a month a year at no charge, and your site stays up while you do.

Send me your business name by text and I'll put your free audit together. You'll see what someone comparing quotes sees when they find you.
